A SUMMARY OF HORSES WHO HAVE WON TWO OR MORE GROUP ONE RACES
IN SYDNEY OR MELBOURNE IN THE PAST 15 SEASONS
AS AT 20 OCTOBER 2005
For the benefit of new readers, Patrick Brain maintains, as a matter of course, the ratings of those horses that have won two or more Group One races in Sydney or Melbourne. A client initially commissioned Patrick to “fill the gaps” so that there was a finite group of racehorses that had all been analysed, and from which some statistical conclusions could be drawn. The list now covers fifteen seasons.
There are 151 horses that have achieved this elite status.
The results to-date are (with 6 new horses since last report shown in bold):
i) 109 (72.2%) of the horses rated under 180 (high degree of compatibility):

Records have also been kept for each Cox Plate, Golden Slipper and AJC Derby winner since 1986. Since the last published results in February 2005, Eremein and Stratum have won the 2005 runnings of the Derby and Slipper respectively and following last year’s results 19 of the past 20 winners of each of the AJC Derby and the Cox Plate, and 18 of the past 20 for the Golden Slipper are the products of compatible matings.
Now these 60 races have been won by 55 individual horses with the statistical breakdown standing at 42 of the 55 (76.36%) rating under 180; 9 of the 55 (16.36%) rated between 180 and 219; and 4 of the 55 (7.27%) rated worse than 220.
The ongoing results, both statistically and those enjoyed by our clients, continue to support the findings of Patrick Brain’s many years of research, that compatible matings significantly improve your chances of racing and breeding high-class racehorses.
