The Chris Waller-trained SWEET SCANDAL had run consecutive Group 3 placings at Caulfield and Flemington before taking on the 1500m of the Gr 3 Summoned Stakes at Sandown on 16 November.

With a doubt about her running out that distance, jockey Michael Walker nursed her and nursed her down the long Sandown straight such that she was never far away from the leaders but never actually hit the lead. Right on the line she made a dash for victory and missed out by the narrowest of margins in a tight finish.

The closeness of the finish threw the owners in the stands who cheered as though she had won, which was captured by Racing.com, and the camera stayed on them as they showed their disbelief and disappointment when her number was not posted.

Here is the photo finish to show how close it was with Sweet Scandal on the outside in the yellow Grant Bloodstock colours.

It was her third consecutive stakes placing so she is now a valuable broodmare and the quality of her performance has meant that Chris has sent her for a spell with a view to be aimed at the Gr 1 Coolmore Classic next March on the first day of the 2020 Golden Slipper carnival. This is a handicap event so she should get in with a light weight, and the aim for Group One glory has her owners very excited.
